You’re back! I’m glad you’re here. This time, I thought I would share my answer about how I came up with the idea for DOBIN. Well, he popped into my head over 15 years ago! Actually, he popped into my head as a screenplay 15 years ago. DOBIN was going to be a movie before he became a book. I kind of did things backwards. So, if an agent is reading this post now… just know that my kind-hearted dragon is in screenplay form, too.
DOBIN was actually a dream I had. I know that sounds cliche… but, it’s the truth! I dream in color, do you? Well, in this dream, I could see, hear, and smell everything. I was amazed by DOBIN’s elaborate scales and baby blue eyes. I could hear King Rudolph’s kingdom bustling, and the smell of mince meat pies baking. I could hear the fair maidens giggling as they tossed their rose scented garlands around Prince Julian and his knight’s necks as they rode their steeds past them. I could feel the anger in Princess Madeline’s clenched fists when her father made her wear shoes and told her she couldn’t be a knight. I could smell the bristly Kazer’s foul breath as he prepared to pop sassy spider-web bound Elora into his mouth. I could feel the intense heat, from The Dragon King’s fiery blast, as it sizzled against Sir Edmond’s shield.
So, sometimes, the idea for a book can come to us in a dream. Sometimes, it comes to us as we listen to a song, smell a flower, or sip a cup of coffee. Inspiration is all around you, and it can strike when you least expect it. And that’s why I always carry a note pad and a pen with me wherever I go. So, there you have it… I DREAMED DOBIN.

Well, the last time we gathered, I promised you another picture of a special critter in my arsenal of characters. Now, he’s not in DOBIN, but a whole tale can be spun about the 3 black polka dots down his back. Meet “Twitch” . He’s a bundle of binkying bunny energy!

Okay, gotta hop! I just got inspired by a twitching nose and cotton tail!
Toodles,
M. J. Putnik
